Keto Diet

What Is a Ketosis Diet Plan?

By restricting carbohydrates (generally below 30 grams daily) to a mere fraction of that found in the regular American diet, your body adopts an alternative metabolic state called ketosis, whereby it burns up its excess fat for energy. Normally the body burns carbs and this is the main supply of energy for your brain, heart and many other internal systems. If you are in the state of ketosis, your body will quickly break down excess fat stores and use little carbon fragments called ketones as a source of energy.

When following a keto diet plan , you often feel less hungry, and therefore you're likely to consume less food than you might otherwise. As a result, your body shifts from a carbohydrate-burning engine into a fat-burning engine. This causes your body to burn the unwanted fat in your thighs, abdomen and waist rather than utilizing the carbs from the foods you have just ingested.

Is Ketosis Dangerous?

Being in ketosis by following a low carbohydrate diet is not dangerous. The human body was designed to use ketones very efficiently as fuel even without carbohydrates. For people with all forms of diabetes, ketoacidosis, which is a result of an increase of acid, can be quite a risky condition. In ketoacidosis, The blood pH could become incredibly acidic and result in really high blood sugar levels. It's the high blood sugar and the acid problem that's so hazardous. Ketones themselves do not play a role in this and merely happen to be in the blood. Diabetics can safely follow a ketogenic diet to shed extra fat, but they must be assessed by their health care provider, and blood sugars need to be kept very low, and stable.
